Beginning Quilting

The first class will be from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
All other classes will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Make a four block sampler and learn the basic techniques of quiltmaking. Rotary cutting, block construction, assembly, basting, hand-quilting and finishing are some of the topics that will be covered in thsi class.

This class will help you gain confidence and improve accuracy at cutting and sewing. Focus on selection of fabrics for each block, proper cutting, new techniques or ways of piecing units together, the use of several quilting rulers to make construction easier.



Beginner Foundation Piecing
Log Cabin Table Runner
Saturday, August 21, 2010 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Learn the basic technique of stitching on a foundation (paper). Learn the use of an add-a-quarter ruler which makes the process easy. This technique can be habit forming!



Intermediate Foundation Piecing
Kaleidoscope
Sunday, August 29, 2010 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
This class will take you to the next step in foundation piecing. You will learn how to draw your own pattern. However, in class you will use my original pattern. Learn how to stitch angles, etc.
(Beginner Foundation Class required prior to taking this class.)



Curved Piecing
September 11, 2010 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
It is time to progress from stitching straight seams to stitching curved seams...there is no reason to be afraid of curved piecing. Using the 7-inch Quarter Circle Template set, which is a 2-piece acrylic template set, your blocks will turn out perfect - the very first time. Many setting options will be shown.



Binding Basics 101
August 14, 2010 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Binding is very important in finishing a quilt. In this class you will learn how to make and apply 4 different forms of binding. The forms are Double Fold, Bias, Single Fold, and Two Color (two different fabrics, one color is on the front and another color is on the back). The class fee includes a quilted sample on which to apply your practice binding. Beginners to Advanced Quilters



Hand Applique
Bird in Hand
September 12, and 19, 2010 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
This class will cover freezer paper-on-the-bottom method of hand appliqué, plus how to make inner and outer points, bias stems and a few other techniques. No sewing machine required at class.



Advanced Quilt Making
Advanced Feathered Star
Saturday, September 25, 2010 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Learn the technique to make the beloved Feathered Star block. You will learn how to make templates, use techniques, use triangle paper or thangles, and the use of rulers. Precise piecing for a perfect block. You will make one block during class time.



Bubble Gum & Scraps
September 26, 2010 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

This is a fun class where you will learn the use of light and dark fabrics (no mediums). Contrast is important. A technique will be taught. You will not be cutting half square triangles. Some cutting prior to class is recommended.



Civil War Tribute Quilt Block of the Month

This is a gorgeous quilt designed by Homestead Hearth using Judie Rothermel's civil war reproduction fabrics from Marcus Brothers. The finished quilt is 102" x 112". Each month you will receive fabric and pattern to do either several blocks or the large medallion block in the center of the quilt. There will be history snippets about the battles of the civil war. If you like reproduction quilts, you'll want to join in this Block of the Month. Please note : When you sign up, you will be committed to staying in the program for the entire year. All of the fabrics for the top will be included in your packet - approximately 22 yards. I will be offering a help session each month for anyone who wants to come and visit and learn a few techniques. I will have a list of the dates for those sessions later on.
